I've been in a massive rut with blogging recently. Thinking of ideas to write about is not something that comes naturally to me... I am not a writer unfortunately but I do love creating content. I've decided to use this website to not only talk about fashion and beauty but also things that are important to me. Living where I live and having a job that involves being in the ocean around animals every day has really made me think about the planet and how our actions can really make an impact.
Since Blue Planet aired last year there has been an incredible response around the world with people becoming aware of the amount of plastic that is destroying our planet. Plastic straws have even been banned across the globe... however banning plastic straws is not going to be enough if we actually want to make a difference. We need to think even bigger thank that. Below are just a few simple ideas that everyone can do to make a difference.
Say no to single use plastic. The easiest thing for everyone to do is to get a reusable water bottle. In the US alone 1500 water bottles are used every second. 38 millions water bottles are sent to the landfills every year. If that doesn't scare you then I don't know what will. Plus the benefits of a reusable bottle means they will keep your drink cold/ hot all day. A brand I heard about recently and I love the idea behind them are Tree Tribe. They are eco friendly, do not use plastic and even plant 10 trees with every purchase!!!
Say no to plastic bags. With the amount of cheap/ eco friendly reusable bags out there there is absolutely no need to be still getting them from the supermarket.
If you really need a straw in your drink then why not invest in a metal one that you can carry round with you whenever you're out. Also think about how many times you get a takeaway. I am definitely not saying don't eat out but start thinking about the amount of packaging that goes to waste every time you order a take away. I've seen some restaurants actually give you a discount if you bring your own containers to put them food in so that if definitely something to look up in your local area.
Honestly the biggest thing that will actually make a difference for our planet is cutting down on meat/ dairy. I don't want to be the person who preaches to you and forces you to give up meat and dairy but if you want to make a difference to help the planet but also feel better in yourself then this is definitely something to think about. There's thousands of documentaries and articles to look at without me having to go into it so please do some research. I really learnt a lot from Cowspiracy and it's definitely worth taking a look at the Veganuary website for information and food ideas.

I am a vegetarian :D. I will have to make a point of reducing my use of plastic even more than I already have. Although I am hoping the plastic we have been taking to recycling actually gets recycled, if I keep the reduction of the plastic in ming when shopping I should be able to make improvements. Industry could do better though.
ReplyDeleteThe print on that Kiss the Sky playsuit from Asos is gorgeous!!!! You look very pretty wearing it!!!

I'm really trying to be more conscious about single use plastic, especially after learning how damaging it can be on the planet xx

This is such a thought-provoking and important post, thank you for writing and sharing lovely! ♥︎ Tree Tribe sound like such an amazing brand, hopefully a lot of others will follow suit and see the importance behind their message. A metal straw is such a good idea of making a difference as well. I barely eat meat these days and am really trying to be more conscious when it comes to making those changes that matter and make an impact for the better. You're an inspiration babe and most DEFINITELY an amazing writer :) You're looking truly stunning in this Kiss the Sky playsuit, an absolute ray of gorgeous sunshine! Kiss the Sky have so many beautiful summery pieces, pure heaven! ♥︎
